AMD to Take $948 Million in Charges

One focus is ATI operations that sell chips for hand-held devices, digital TVs and other consumer-electronics products, whose revenues declined 31% in the first quarter and posted an $8 million operating loss. In its filing, AMD said those operations "have not performed in accordance with the company's expectations," leading the company to take an $880 million goodwill and intangible asset impairment charge.
