Cray Plans Radical Product Design(WSJ)

Crayがブレード方式のスーパーコンピュータを開発したという話。スーパーコンピュータは今や,スカラー型のIBMが席巻している。シェアは47%を占める。対するCrayは11%。

Cray plans to give users even more choice. The company's so-called adaptive-supercomputing technology, slated to begin appearing on machines in 2007, will shuttle chores among different blades that use AMD's Opteron chips, FPGAs or its proprietary vector processors. One benefit: Customers who now pay a minimum of $10 million for a vector-type machine will be able to get access to the technology for less than $1 million, said Peter Ungaro, Cray's chief executive officer.
